Howard & Co., Boston, Mass., series I pocket watch, N size, 15 jewels, key wind and set gilt plate movement with five semicircular cutouts, Reeds barrel, maintaining power, lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance, and gold timing screws in a coin silver, engraved hunting case with decagonal band and Roman numeral, single sunk white enamel dial, blued steel umbrella hands, serial #1777, c1860.
CONDITION:
CASE: Case has housed another movement; Minor dents; Scratches on outer surface of case; Fine scratches on inner surface of case; Cuvette converted for observation of movement, crystal missing; Engine turning and engraving nearly worn smooth; Bezel hinge pin missing; Bow replaced; Precious metal content marked. DIAL: Hairlines in enamel, light, 6:00, center to seconds bit; Flake at edge, 9:00. HANDS: Replaced; Bends and losses to blue. MOVEMENT PLATES: Minor scratches on plate; Top plate and balance cock aggressively polished, lacking gilding; Bottom plate filed to reduce diameter; Case screws missing; Bright work with minor oxide. MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Ticks briefly, needs service.
